This is not complex.
This does not require a degree from Harvard Divinity School. (In fact, that may only blind you to the Truth even further.)
If you are a Christian, if you claim to follow Jesus, if you consider the Bible, the Old and New testaments to be the Word of God: revealed Truth, then you are standing at a fork on the road.
You cannot be a Child of God and “straddle the fence.”
If you take the path to the Right, then you believe that every word in the Bible is God’s Word without error or embellishment. It is God’s Word; plain and simple. Divine Truth without error.
If you take the path that veers to the Left, then the Bible cannot be trusted: it is riddled with errors and was created by men: Not by God. It is a false, counterfeit, man-made document; not divinely inspired and written.
You cannot have it both ways.
Many Christians, those who profess belief in God and his Word have now embraced the false doctrine, the evil teaching of “Black Lives Matter.”
These Christians, many of whom I love and respect, have abandoned God and his Word and embraced the false narrative that is now fast becoming a new “faith” in modern America.
What does the Bible say about black criminals dying at the hands of police? What does God say about police officers and agents of the state? Are they “murderers” like the BLM false narrative says?
Or does God say something entirely different than Black Lives Matter?
Romans 13: 1-5
Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will [a]bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake.
This is either true. Or it is not. You cannot have it both ways.
Does God want you to submit to the police? Or fight them and resist arrest because they are hateful racists? Are black people submitting or resisting the police? Is resisting the police; Godly, righteous, wholesome behavior? Or is it sin and wickedness?
This is NOT open to “interpretation.”
What others say about Romans 13
Matthew Henry 1662-1714
The grace of the gospel teaches us submission and quiet, where pride and the carnal mind only see causes for murmuring and discontent. Whatever the persons in authority over us themselves may be, yet the just power they have, must be submitted to and obeyed. In the general course of human affairs, rulers are not a terror to honest, quiet, and good subjects, but to evil-doers. Such is the power of sin and corruption, that many will be kept back from crimes only by the fear of punishment. Thou hast the benefit of the government, therefore do what thou canst to preserve it, and nothing to disturb it. This directs private persons to behave quietly and peaceably where God has set them.
John F. MacArthur, b. 1939
But the institution of government with all of its failures and abuses is nonetheless designed by God for the protection of life and property, the repression of evil, and the rewarding of virtue and good.
Here then is the first reason to submit to the government. It is designed by God. God knows what our government is like. God knows what our situation is like. God has allowed it. It is His appointment and we are to submit to it. That’s our responsibility.
Second point, government is by divine decree, first of all. Secondly, resistance to government is rebellion against God. Resistance to government is rebellion against God. All sin against civil authority is a sin against God who put that authority there.
Look at it there in verse 2. “Therefore, he who resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God.” The word “ordinance” is “institute,” “institution,” diatag. You’re really opposing God. Whoever resists… The word “resist” here has the idea of lining yourself up against. It’s a military term, getting in line against, to arrange yourself to take action against. When you do that, when you resist the government, you have committed an awful crime, a crime against God Himself.
It was not consequential whether the Roman emperor was elected by the people, whether he was appointed by the senate, or whether he was placed by the military, or whether he inherited it by family. That didn’t matter. It was not consequential whether the imperial authority asserted by Caesar was just or unjust, or whether Caesar was good or bad. We know his authority was often unjust and he was terribly wicked, that was not an issue. Still Paul says to the Roman Christians, submit.
As a Christian, you can NOT have this “both ways.”
(A) You side with Black Lives Matter (BLM), Antifa, and other un-Godly groups and their rebellion against God and the civil authority (police) that God has instituted to keep order and punish the evil doer.
(B) You side with God and the police (law enforcement) who are doing HIS WILL in protecting society and keeping us all safe.
The Bible is clear: Those who submit have nothing to fear. The only ones upon whom the sword falls are those who resist the lawful authority that God has put in power.
For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.
