It’s Morning again in America?

Some of us suspected this back in 1981.

Some of us were deceived.

But all of us should have read this passage over and over again until it sunk in and we embraced this Truth of God:

Do Not Love the World

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. 1st John 2:15-17

It was “Morning again in America” in 1981.

I remember it well.  I was a young man back then.

Christians all over the US were rejoicing, but we should have suspected the worst of those “Christian leaders” and politicians who tickled our ears and made promises of turning back the clock and “conserving” Christian values and Christian traditions.

I vividly remember Jerry Falwell saying this on national TV;

“With a Ronald Reagan administration, we will restore America to it’s Christian origins.  I have been assured by Ronald Reagan that we will get at least two, maybe three Conservative, Bible-Believing Supreme Court Justices to overturn Roe V Wade and make abortion illegal in every state.  With a Conservative president like President Reagan, we will force homosexuals back into the closet and restore morality back to America.  Every Bible-Believing Christian needs to vote for Ronald Reagan and support the Republican party.”

Yes, I remember it well.

It’s Morning Again in America?

The last 40 years have been more like a nightmare.

Of course we could have saved ourselves a lot of time, heartache and trouble if we had only taken seriously what God said about the World.

Did we really expect a shallow, worldly Hollywood actor, who had numerous homosexual friends and as California Governor signed the most pro-abortion law in California history, to serve the interests of godly Christians who wanted to restore the old America?

We eagerly deceived ourselves for 40 years.

We have only ourselves to blame.

I belong to another time and place. Sadly, that world no longer exists. I long for my home. I long for the desert. I miss the old America. I mourn for what once was, and will never be again. So I blog and write and remember.

  1. President Reagan was a fantastic inspirer and role model for the nation. Though I never voted for him, I never doubted that he was a fine man who cared for the country.

Certainly, as a Southerner, I appreciated that he understood States’ Rights and never interfered with us.

I also appreciate that he confronted The Soviet Union and that he never lied to get us into a war.

Nor did he illegally spy on people, and then justifiy it with his words or pen – as have George Bush and Barack Obama.

I think history has show Ronald Reagan to be a much better president than we have had since he left office.

It is a tragedy we have no Ronald Reagans still around, or so it seems. Maybe Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri can fit the bill or Tucker Carlson, if this nation stays together, which I doubt that it will.

One tragic mistake President Reagan made, however, one with which we will still be living in a century – he hired Corporate-Globalist Alan Greenspan to run ‘The Fed’, and Mr. Greenspan dismantled our manufacturing sector, leaving our entire Smalltown and rural Economy in a shambles.

Sadly, Mr. Greenspan was kept on by Presidents Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Obama – the destruction now so complete, Eastern North Carolina looks like there has been a war here.

Why, do you know that, in 19 & 70 every smalltown in North Carolina had manufacturing, employment opportunity, and a tax bases with which to support itself?

One town, right nearby, once had 15 manufacturing concerns.

Want to know what it has today?

    Yep, you guessed it : ——- 15.

    Greenspan is Mr. Reagan’s tragedy.

That said, Reagan is a hell of a lot better than anything we’ve had in this century.

      1. Yes, Geir, Johnson City/Bristol used to have a lot, but, no more.

The whole culture of ‘Made in America’, once the great source of every man’s pride, is now gone forever.

I try not to think of the treachery behind that, because it renders my mood too black.

Yep, you guessed it : ——- ZERO.’

  3. Reagan was my first presidential vote. I was in my early 20’s at the time, as were you. I remember this as well. Yet, what was our alternative? What did the Other side promise? What was WRONG with what Falwell promised? Have you ever heard of Rousas J. Rushdoony? Did you know that Falwell co-opted Rush’s (the real Rush!) massive commentary on the Ten Commandments [Institutes of biblical Law] and joined it to his aberrant Dispensational rhetoric? And that THAT was why Anita Bryant got hit in the face with a pie, had voodoo dolls sold in gay establishments, and allowed us to start down the ‘slippery slope,’ because we DIDN’T put gays with Aids into concentration camps? Our present is what it is, because we DIDN’T hold Reagan’s feet to the flames, as we should have. It was not his fault. It was OUR FAULT.
